CNA or Certified Nursing Assistant is a person who helps out the licensed nurse in looking after the sick and ill patients in the hospitals or nursing homes.

The institutes or the authorized colleges which provide the CNA training program, train their students in various technical jobs such as operating medical equipments (x-ray machines, overhead glucose bottles), checking and informing the vital signs of the patients to the nurse or the doctor and so on.

Once the student completes the training program and start working as a professional nursing assistant, they have to perform a number of CNA duties for betterment of the ailing patients. Some duties are listed below:

• Checking and updating the vital signs of the patients.
• Cleaning up the patient’s room and keeping it neat and tidy.
• Doing the laundry of the patients.
• Helping them in walking and taking them to the therapy sessions.
• Gathering some samples for the medical tests.
• Monitoring the personal hygiene of the patients.
• Keeping a check on the food intake of the patients.

Apart from the above listed duties, there are few qualities that a nursing assistant should possess. These qualities are enhanced during the training program. The traits are as follows:

• An assistant must be flexible enough so that he or she could work for long hours and odd timing shifts.
• An effective communicator will always succeed in his or her job.
• He or she should have both kinds of stamina, that is, emotional and physical.
